Hibiscus, Contemporary Floral Paintings by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

6″x8,” Oil on Canvas Panel, $60

Day 4 of 30/60

A common question/problem among my painter friends

as well as my students is,

“How do I know when the painting is finished?”

Well….good question.

The answer can be quite tricky,

as that sweet spot between “unfinished” and “overdone”

is a delicate balance.

I prefer a certain freshness that hasn’t lost the liveliness

of the early strokes of paint.

As one of my teachers says, “It takes two to do a painting.

One to paint it, and one to say ‘Stop. Now.'”

30/60 is my personal challenge to offer

30 days of paintings at $60 each.

I hope you find something you like in these 30 days

(leading up to my….60th bd; yes, it’s hard to swallow,

but, hey, life is great.  Especially when I get to paint.)

Beloved Pup, Pet Portraits by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

5″ x 7,” Acrylic Painting

This dog portrait is framed and ready to hang.

Painted in an expressionistic style, the dog’s personality

shines through – in my humble opinion!

Red Flowers

16″ x 20,” Oil on Stretched Canvas

With a classic upside-down L composition, textured background,

and vibrant red abstracted flowers, I think this painting pops.

The challenge of reducing a subject to its basic form

continues to draw me to the paints.

16″ x 20,” Acrylic on Stretched Canvas

This is my 8-1/2 year old Labradoodle Alfie, aka Angel Dog.

I have a couple of other paintings of Alfie so am willing to put this one

out in cyberspace for sale.

Ocean View

10″ x 10″ x 1,” Mixed Media

This was simply so delightful to put together

with various hand-made papers, acrylic paints and oil paints.

The textures and paint thicknesses add interest

for the viewer.

Someday I hope to teach a mixed media class.

Notre Dame Cathedral, Paintings of France by Arizona Artist Amy Whitehouse

6″ x 8,” Acrylic

This magnificent cathedral in Paris was one of my favorite

spots during the year I spent as a student there, 1973.

My best friend and musical mentor, Courtney Zirkle,

introduced me to the weekly organ concerts on Sunday evenings

at Notre Dame.

Thirty-three years later, while visiting Paris with our oldest children,

we were delighted to enjoy one of these concerts that were

still being held every Sunday.

Thanks, Cody!
