Summer Bouquet

Oil, 9″ x 12″

This bouquet came together over the course of a few days.

I wanted to capture the hot colors of summer and balance that

with cool tones and a feeling of glass.

I filled the canvas with colors
then made my image primarily by painting

Daffodil Trio

IMG_0774 (1).jpg

Oil, 6″ x 8″

Lately I’ve been thinking more about

the structure of specific flowers,

as well as the way light falls on my subjects.

Composition is always uppermost in my mind,

and I want to give the background some interest.

I love the neutral foil to the bright blooms.

Red Tulips

11″ x 14″ Oil

Having experimented with dramatic lighting for the past two weeks,

I painted one that fits the bill for me.

The rich red tulips, the light catching the yellow-green of their stems,

and the touches of red in the background and foreground

work together in a way that pleases me.

Mothers’ Day Flowers

12″ x 16″ Oil

Just finished today. My favorite flowers are peonies.

I started this one by roughly sketching in the main shapes,

painting in the darkest darks and lightest lights,

and thenĀ  finishing up showing light, shadow,

and color changes.
