Morning Has Broken 2

8″ x 8″ Oil

Hiking early in the mornings here in the Valley of the Sun,

hoping to beat the heat as temps climb into the triple digits.

The beauty of a new dawn breaking is moving beyond words.

So I try to paint the emotion.

Hiking early Sunday the air was nearly cool and the mist

was mesmerizing over the mountains.

I wanted to capture the flavor of the hike,

Oil, 18″ x 24″

Just finished today, this landscape is all about the sunset

and the sky color peeking out from behind the clouds.

I enjoyed bringing this painting together:

the colors and shapes of clouds, the silhouette of the trees,

the depiction of the end of day.

5″ x 7″ Watercolor, $75

Painting with watercolor on Yupo paper

was a brand new experience for me.

I had the good fortune to spend a month

in Fernandina Beach, FL, this past September.

I took watercolors on this trip since

they’re easier to transport than oils,

I wanted to explore watercolor techniques.

Desert in Spring

Roses are blooming in my backyard, and before we know it,

the whole desert will be in bloom.

I have loved the Arizona desert since arriving here 23 years ago.

And nothing beats the Spring blooms. These barrel cacti are just about to bud.
