8″ x 10″ Oil

Peonies are available for about two weeks

here in the Valley of the Sun.

I buy them up to enjoy and to paint,

and – whoosh! – they’re gone.

Taking a break from very realistic,
I filled the canvas with colors
then made my image primarily by painting
the negative spaces.
I want to do another.

Oil, 6″ x 8″

Lately I’ve been thinking more about

the structure of specific flowers,

as well as the way light falls on my subjects.

Composition is always uppermost in my mind,

and I want to give the background some interest.

I love the neutral foil to the bright blooms.

After painting several versions of this set-up,

and reflective surfaces.

Mothers’ Day Flowers

12″ x 16″ Oil

Just finished today. My favorite flowers are peonies.

I started this one by roughly sketching in the main shapes,

painting in the darkest darks and lightest lights,

and then  finishing up showing light, shadow,

and color changes.

Presently working on still life paintings,

and attempting to incorporate some of the

teachings of Scott Conary,

this is one of my favorites.

I’m concentrating on lighting,

surfaces, and composition.

Iris Bud

8″ x 10″ Oil

Having recently completed a workshop with

Scott Conary

I have a renewed passion to paint.

Scott is an extraordinary artist and human being.

And Sedona Arts Center is a fabulous venue

for workshops.

On the other side of the coin,

I’m grieving the loss of my sweet dog.

Life is always a mix.

Should you desire to have this painting

please let me know.
